Banking Technology Connections: July 31, 2012

July 31, 2012

Welcome to Banking Technology Connections. The goal of the newsletter is to communicate recent trends and issues facing Banking Technology Professionals If you would like to subscribe to this newsletter and receive it via email please contact Sam Sexer at ssexer@wolfandco.com.

In this edition of the BTC, we are welcoming home our staff who attended the Blackhat/DefCon conferences last week. For those not familiar with this event, it started back in 1993 and is designated as the oldest running hacker convention in the world. It's a great opportunity for us to see the latest trends in threats from some of the most sophisticated hacker minds.

In two of the articles this week, we see a focus on threats affecting smartphones ("Researcher wows Black Hat with NFC-based smartphone hacking demo") and Java ("Java is becoming an increasingly popular target for hackers; research at Black Hat").  These are two areas that should be top of mind for anyone responsible for bank information systems.  While you might be able to regulate smartphone access to the network (although that is getting more difficult every day), Java is obviously a necessity.  Take a read and stay tuned for our report from last week's conference!
