Social Engineering for fun? That's exactly what happened at the DEFCON conferences a few weeks ago . ("How social engineering tricked Wal-Mart into handing over sensitive information".) One of the challenges during the week was getting a volunteer to perform a social engineering attack on a Wal-Mart manager in front of hundreds of attendees. Innocent enough for Walmart to simply ignore the attack. What if your Institution was selected? While no fraud was actually committed, the reputational effects can be fairly disastrous. How can you deter such attacks? Keep the Security Awareness training fresh and easy to understand. Follow the training up with some security alerts during the year...
