Envision Healthcare’s business model relies heavily on detailed reporting and analytics to manage hospital staffing, recruitment, and onboarding processes. With over 1,000 hospital partners nationwide, the organization tracks an estimated one million data points, including shifts worked, hours logged, staffing vacancies, and clinician placements.

While this data is essential for decision-making, it was being manually entered into Excel, resulting in time-consuming and error-prone reporting. On average, each report took 12-16 hours to complete, translating to around 20 hours per week in manual effort.

Envision needed a solution that would not only streamline this process but also improve accuracy, decrease costs, and uncover new insights for operational improvement.

Solution

Wolf’s Data Solutions approached the problem with a triage strategy. They began by developing a data model to transition Envision’s existing Excel data into a structured relational database, allowing the organization to maintain its workflow while gradually adapting to a new system.

Then, Data Solutions used rapid prototyping to show the efficiency of data automation. After beta testing within a small division of the company, Data Solutions rolled out a full-scale application and reporting engine across the entire organization. This new system, InsightOut, included a corporate dashboard, automated monthly reports, and a customized interface consistent with Envision’s branding guidelines. The solution eliminated the need for manual reporting while ensuring real-time access to accurate data.
