Steve and Susan will be on a panel speaking on the topic of Launching a Cannabis Banking Program on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m., moderated by Tony Repanich.
The cannabis industry is rapidly expanding in the Northeast as more states legalize sales for adult use. As the industry expands, so too does the need for additional banking services. Differences in state and federal laws is limiting the number of financial institutions willing to provide services, which creates a unique opportunity for credit unions to support legal cannabis businesses in this underserved market. This session will help participants:
- Understand the cannabis banking business opportunity, including low-cost deposits, non-interest income, and earning assets.
- Uncover risks beyond the BSA department and how to mitigate them.
- Engage key stakeholders, including the board of directors, senior management, and compliance and operational teams.
- Navigate a changing policy and regulatory landscape.
